DCgate-OC:Installation Guide for Windows

Note: DO NOT USE DCgate-OC WHILE ON CAMPUS
Note: This guide is no longer necessary when using the .exe installer, and it provided for legacy support.
After downloading DCgate, the files must be extracted to a suitable location. If your unsure about how to do this, the following steps should help.
- Right click on the DCgate-3.2.zip file
- Click extract all, the extraction wizard should open
- Click next
- Choose a directory to extract to, C:\Program Files\DCgate\ for example, or the desktop is fine
- Click Next, and Finish
You must also install a suitable DC++ client for connecting to DCgate. DC++ and StrongDC are two available clients. The default install for either is sufficient, and specific setup instructions for both are below.
DC++
- Run DC++
- When prompted for connection and nickname info, fill in a nickname and leave the rest
- Click the gold start at the top, this will open your favorite hubs list
- Click New to create a new hub
- Name: Purdue DCgate
Address: 127.0.0.1:6473 Description: Purdue DCgate Nick: Your Nickname Password: (leave blank) Description: Click ok
- You'll see the newly created hub, check the box beside its name in order to have DC++ auto-connect
- To download on DCgate you must have something shared, to do this go to
File / Settings Sharing Add / Choose appropriate folders to share
- Click OK
- In the favorite hubs window, choose DCgate and click connect
StrongDC
- Run StrongDC
- When prompted for Nick and info, filling out only the Nick is sufficient
- To download on DCgate you must have something shared, to do this click Sharing and choose appropriate folders on your computer to be shared
- Click OK
- Click the gold start at the top, this will open your favorite hubs list
- Click New to create a new hub
- Name: Purdue DCgate
Address: 127.0.0.1:6473 Description: Purdue DCgate Nick: Your Nickname Password: (leave blank) Description: Click ok
- You'll see the newly created hub, check the box beside its name in order to have DC++ auto-connect
- To connect select DCgate and click connect
Note: You must run the DCgate executable before you will be able to connect. This file can be found in the directory you chose to extract DCgate-3.1.zip to. It's the 'DCgate' file with the green and blue icon.
