Bot Rules (2/28/10)

There has been a lot of talk about the number of bots we have in the channel, and how some have potential to be abused and annoying. The first example has been Galois, a bot written by PiTheMathGod. Since it runs mathematica its backend, users were able to set variables and then call them back so that Galois would continuously state whatever they wanted. This is currently being fixed, and hopefully we'll try to avoid things like this in the future. However, after talking with a few of you who were concerned, as recently appointed channel owner I made a decision, and in my opinion it's pretty fair.

Final Ruling

  • All bots are allowed but need to set mode +B on themselves
  • If your bot is starting to become abused or annoying and it is brought to my attention, I will either ask you to put in preventive functions or simply ask you to remove the bot.
  • Myself (saigon) has the final word. Unfortunately that's how it goes, although I will definitely ask the opinion of a few people before making any decision.
  • This can change if it ever needs to. If there's a massive influx of bots, then I will not hesitate to disallow all non-sanctioned bots.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM saigon.
